Bobble Stitch: Step-by-Step Tutorial
A bobble is several unfinished double crochets worked into the same stitch and closed together at the top. The result is a round, raised bump. Bobbles add texture to blankets and are the sunburst centre of our granny square.
- Turning chain
- Depends on the row (usually 1 or 3)
- Height
- Double crochet height, puffed out
Step by step
1. Start a double crochet
Yarn over, insert into the stitch, yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through 2 loops. Leave it unfinished.
2. Repeat in the same stitch
Make two more unfinished double crochets in the same stitch. You have 4 loops on the hook.
3. Close the bobble
Yarn over and pull through all 4 loops.
4. Push it out
Bobbles pop out on the side facing away from you. Push each one to the right side as you go.
Illustrations show the hook and the loops on it at the end of each step. Instructions use US terms (bob); in UK patterns this stitch is written as bob.
