About this pattern
This sleepy little bunny is the pattern we give to friends who have just learned the magic ring. Everything is worked in continuous rounds of single crochet, with no colour changes in the main pieces and only six small parts to join.
The closed eyes are embroidered, so the bunny is a safe choice for babies and toddlers. Long floppy ears and a round tummy make it easy to hug, and it still fits in a coat pocket.
Why you'll love it
- Only single crochet, increases and decreases
- Embroidered eyes, so it is safe for little ones
- Finishes in an evening, about 3 hours
- Works with any worsted cotton or acrylic from your stash
Step progress photos
- 1
Head shaped
Head closed and stuffed, with the eyes embroidered between Rnds 10 and 11.
- 2
Body done
The body is stuffed firmly so the head can sit upright.
- 3
Ears & feet
The ears stay flat. The feet get a pinch of stuffing.
- 4
Finished bunny
All pieces sewn on, with pink cheeks and a tiny nose.
Switch things up
Make it a rattle
Drop a plastic rattle insert into the body after Rnd 13, then finish stuffing around it.
Try a velvet yarn
Chenille or velvet yarn in the same weight looks extra plush. Use a stitch marker on every round, because the stitches are hard to see.
Big bunny
Hold two strands of worsted together and use a 5 mm hook for a bunny about 20 cm tall. The stitch counts stay the same.

Common mistakes & how to fix them
- There is a hole at the centre of the head.
- Pull the magic ring tail firmly after Rnd 2, then weave it back through the first round before stuffing.
- My stitch count is off after a decrease round.
- Mark the first stitch of every round and count after each decrease round. An invisible decrease (front loops only) is easier to see and count.
- The head flops forward.
- Stuff the neck area of both pieces firmly, and sew all the way around the neck twice.

The pattern
Head
Worked in continuous rounds with the main colour.
Info: Embroider the closed eyes now, between Rnds 10 and 11, about 8 stitches apart. Each eye is a small U shape in navy.
Info: Stuff the head firmly before the opening gets too small.
Body
Ears (make 2)
Info: Do not stuff the ears. Flatten them and leave a 30 cm tail for sewing.
Feet (make 2) & tail
Info: Add a pinch of stuffing to the feet and tail, then fasten off with tails for sewing.
Assembly
- 1
Pin the head on top of the body, with the open end of the body centred under the head. Sew around twice with the body tail.
- 2
Fold the base of each ear in half and sew it to the top of the head between Rnds 3 and 5, about 6 stitches apart.
- 3
Sew the feet to the front of the body at Rnd 3, then the tail to the back at Rnd 6.
- 4
Embroider a small V-shaped nose in navy between the eyes, and make pink cheeks with three short straight stitches each.
Important notes
- Tip: Work in continuous rounds without joining, and move your stitch marker up every round.
- Tip: Leave the magic ring tail extra long so you can tighten it again after stuffing.
- Tip: For a baby gift, skip safety eyes and buttons, and sew every piece on twice.

Is this a good first amigurumi?
Yes. It uses only single crochet, increases and decreases, and every piece is worked in rounds. If you can make a magic ring, you can make this bunny.
How much yarn do I need?
About 40 g of worsted weight yarn in the main colour, a small amount of cream for the tail, and a little embroidery floss.
Can I use safety eyes instead?
Yes. Use 9 mm safety eyes between Rnds 10 and 11, about 8 stitches apart, and fit them before you close the head. For children under three, embroider the eyes instead.
Why is my bunny bigger than 13 cm?
Your stitches are looser than ours. Go down half a hook size so the stuffing does not show through the fabric.
Can I sell what I make from this pattern?
Yes. You may sell finished items made from this pattern in small handmade batches. Please credit Sweety Dreamz as the designer. Do not share, translate or resell the written pattern or its photos.
Is there a printable version?
Yes. Use the Print button at the top of the page. The print view removes ads and decorations, and you can leave out the pictures to save ink.
