About this pattern
A relaxed, drop-shoulder cardigan with a single braided cable running down each front. The body and sleeves are simple rectangles in half double crochet. The cables use front-post stitches, and the bands are post-stitch rib that looks just like knitting.
Sizes are written as S (M, L, XL, 2XL). Choose your size with 15–20 cm of positive ease for the oversized look in the photos.
Why you'll love it
- Drop shoulders, so there is no armhole shaping
- Knit-look ribbing made with post stitches

Common mistakes & how to fix them
- The cable twists the wrong way.
- Work the second set of 3 FPtr in front of the first set. Working behind makes it cross the other way.
- The rib is wider than the body.
- Post stitches are wide. Use a hook one size smaller for the rib rows only.
- The front band waves.
- You picked up too many stitches. Aim for about 2 hdc for every 3 rows along the fronts.

Assembly
- 1
Block all pieces to the measurements and let them dry fully.
- 2
Place the fronts on the back with right sides together. Sew the shoulders from the outer edge inwards for 14 (16, 18, 20, 22) cm, leaving the centre open for the neck.
- 3
Fold each sleeve in half lengthways, match the fold to the shoulder seam and sew the top of the sleeve to the body.
- 4
Sew each side seam and sleeve seam in one line, from the hem up to the cuff.
- 5
Front band, Row 1: with RS facing and the 5 mm hook, join at the lower right front, ch 2, work hdc evenly up the right front, across the back neck and down the left front, making an even number of sts.
- 6
Front band, Rows 2–5: ch 2, turn, *FPdc, BPdc* across. For buttons, in Row 3 make five buttonholes along the right front: (ch 2, sk 2) evenly spaced. In Row 4, work 2 sts into each ch-2 sp.
Important notes
- Tip: Fit guide: measure your bust and add 15–20 cm. Pick the size whose finished chest is closest.
- Tip: Drop shoulders sit lower than your natural shoulder. That is part of the relaxed look.
- Tip: Wet blocking makes a big difference to the drape of post stitches. Do not skip it.

Is this cardigan hard to make?
It is rated advanced because of the size and the post stitches, but every piece is a rectangle. If you can work FPdc, you can make the cables.
How much ease does it have?
About 15–20 cm of positive ease. For a closer fit, go down one size.
Can I make it longer?
Yes. Work more rows on the back and both fronts. Each 10 rows add about 10 cm. Allow about 80 g extra yarn for each 10 cm.
Which yarn did you use?
An Aran-weight wool and acrylic blend (about 170 m per 100 g). Any Aran yarn that matches the gauge will work.
