Afghans & Throws Crochet Patterns

Afghans and throws are the big, cosy projects you work on through a whole season. Here you will find one-piece throws, granny-square blankets and join-as-you-go designs that grow square by square.

Every pattern lists how to change the size, so you can make a lap blanket, a sofa throw or a bedspread from the same instructions.

Afghans & Throws FAQ

What is the difference between an afghan and a throw?

They are mostly the same thing. "Afghan" is the traditional name for a crocheted or knitted blanket. "Throw" usually means a sofa-sized blanket of about 120 × 150 cm.

How long does an afghan take?

Plan for 20–40 hours for a throw. Square-based designs are easy to carry around and work on in small bursts.

How do I keep the edges straight?

Count your stitches at the end of every row, and always work the last stitch into the turning chain or top of the last stitch.
